Assignment Submission Guidelines

Proctoring Exams

  • Proctoring is a parent-led process required in TPS high school and middle school courses. Exam proctoring using our guidelines is entirely beneficial to the student to support better learning and higher grades.
  • For High School and Middle School courses taken for TPS Credit, Exams not proctored according to TPS standard guidelines are graded with penalty (20% HS/10% MS).
  • For High School and Middle School courses taken in No TPS Credit (i.e., no TPS transcript), there is no proctoring requirement.
  • For Elementary School courses, there is no proctoring penalty.
  • TPS Summer classes (except HS Study Skills) do not receive TPS transcript credit, so exam proctoring is not required for TPS Summer classes (except HS Study Skills, if taken for credit).

Extension Requests – Due Dates

Extensions (i.e., arrangements for late submit made in advance of the assignment being submitted) are not necessary or beneficial. The process of negotiating extensions places unnecessary burden on the student and reduces the benefit of the extension itself.

Instead of unnecessary and burdensome extension requests and negotiations, TPS provides better options consistent with the nature and duration of the lateness. The Lateness Penalty waiver and Humanitarian Leave waiver processes make extensions unnecessary and counterproductive.

Lateness < 5 days (120 hours)

Student may request waiver of lateness penalty for a particular assignment when the assignment is submitted.

Lateness > 5 days (120 hours)

Parent may request academic leave for humanitarian purposes, where assignments are entirely waived for the period of leave.

Resubmit Requests – Ungradable Documents

  • Documents submitted that are unable to be evaluated (e.g., blank, wrong content, wrong file type) are initially scored as zero.

Reset Requests – Auto-Score (AT) Assignments

  • AT assignments have multiple confirmations and safeguards to prevent accidental submission and to allow quick recovery from a technical interruption.
  • AT assignment reset requests are not supported.

Regrade / Extra Credit Requests

  • Requests for regrade or extra credit for an accurately evaluated assignment (i.e., to raise a low grade) will not be considered. However, TPS provides GPA Protection commitment to protect students against course GPA lowered by a singular aberrant score.
  • Regrade requests will be considered to resolve potential errors in the objective evaluation of an assignment. In this case, the entire assignment will be regraded (i.e., not just points added to correct an error) and the regrade (higher or lower score) will be the final score.

External Scores – “Ask Score” Poll (SP) Cross Checks

  • “Ask Score” Polls are used by the student to enter numerical scores from automated quizzes completed outside StudyPlace (e.g., online quizzes provided with the textbook).
  • Teachers spot-check the StudyPlace “Ask Score” Poll scores against the external quiz records. Significant or recurring incorrectly reported scores are assigned gradebook score(s) of Zero.

GPA Protection

  • Grade penalties (e.g., lateness, ungradable resubmit, proctoring) are carefully designed to be small enough that a single penalty should not hurt a final course GPA.
  • TPS further commits that no single assignment will be allowed to bring down a course GPA for a student. Please see our GPA Protection commitment.
  • Appeals for extenuating circumstances may be made in writing to TPS Support.
