No TPS Credit and Drop Options

TPS offers Our Courses Your Way. TPS courses include adjustable options to meet individual needs and preferences for workload and grade records. The No TPS Credit option may be chosen at enrollment or later during the course.

If you are considering a drop, please review and consider the No TPS Credit option first because you may find it more beneficial and suited to your individual needs and preferences.

No TPS Credit Option

What are the benefits of the No TPS Credit option?
  • Student desires the learning benefits (class instruction, class discussion, assignment feedback) but does not want the external grade record.
  • Family intends to provide their own transcript without the TPS course grade and credit, and prefers not to use TPS evaluation standards and requirements (e.g., exam proctoring, late penalties).
  • Student prefers to avoid the record of a drop (which can adversely impact a college application). Reasons to consider this include:
    • Student academic goals and priorities change after starting the course.
    • Total student workload (classes, extracurriculars, job) higher than anticipated.
    • Course difficulty higher than anticipated.
How does the No TPS Credit option work?
  • Student participates in the class and submits any work (e.g., reports, papers, exams) from the regular assignment schedule that the family wants evaluated.
  • Teacher evaluates and provides feedback on any regular work submitted on time or in the 5-day late window.
  • Assignment evaluation and feedback same for all students, except in No TPS Credit (i.e., no TPS transcript) status:
    • Lateness penalties are not assigned.
    • Unsubmitted assignments receive NS (no score) and do not affect the gradebook calculation.
  • TPS provides no official transcript or grade record.
    • If a TPS transcript is requested, it will not list courses taken in No TPS Credit (i.e., no TPS transcript) status.
    • Family may generate course record for a homeschool transcript.
    • TPS provides a cumulative grade calculation for the family to use optionally in generating the homeschool transcript.
    • Homeschool transcript may not reference TPS by name or include the TPS school profile.
  • Other Considerations
    • TPS College courses are not eligible for college credit when taken in No TPS Credit (i.e., no TPS transcript) status.
    • Certified AP courses may be taken in No TPS Credit status only by written approval from TPS Support (due to additional limitations imposed by the College Board).
    • A course taken in No TPS Credit (i.e., no TPS transcript) status does not count as a prerequisite for a follow-on course in TPS, so a student who desires to take the next TPS course must submit applicable readiness assessment documents and may be required to take the next course in a No Credit status.
What is the process for switching a course to No TPS Credit status?

Considerations For Dropping a Course

Dropping a course after it has started has financial and academic considerations. We recommend switching to No TPS Credit (i.e., no TPS transcript) status instead of dropping a course after it has started.

  • All enrollments have non-refundable fees.
  • If the course being dropped was used as basis for readiness approval in a concurrent course (e.g., a math course that supports a science course, or an English course that supports a history course), the concurrent course(s) may be switched to No TPS Credit (i.e., no TPS transcript) status by TPS.
  • A course dropped anytime after the start of the academic term will be recorded as a Drop on a TPS transcript. This may be a concern for competitive college applications.
How is a dropped course documented on a TPS transcript?
  • The TPS transcript records the course status as “Drop” with the date of the drop.
  • No credit or grade is provided (including partial credit or grade prior to Drop).
  • No characterization of the drop (e.g., Pass/Fail) is provided.
  • These protocols apply to all courses started in a TPS Credit status and then dropped after the start of the academic term (even if switched to No TPS Credit (i.e., no TPS transcript) status prior to the drop).
  • Transfer transcripts follow the same protocols, where courses are listed as dropped with the date of drop and no credit, grade, or other characterization.
What is the process for dropping a course?

To initiate a drop request, send a support request message explaining the reason for the drop. (The live support team does not process drop requests.)
