Sharing (Presenting) Your Screen (App Window)

Cautions

  • This procedure shares live information from your screen. Be careful not to share private information.
  • This is an advanced procedure that should be used only by trained teachers and experienced students. It is generally not used by younger students.

To show your presentation, document or image to others in your class or meeting:

  1. In a GP7 meeting, become the Presenter.
    • In a class, the teacher must make you the Presenter.
    • For Teachers:  “Co-Presenter” is not sufficient capability. A student must be a full Presenter to be able to share a portion of his or her screen.
  2. When you are the Presenter, there are more tabs on top of GP7. Select the Screen Share tab (top of the screen — it has the icon of a computer display).
  3. Click on the App Window Share button (orange button center of screen).
    • For the MacOS, if you have previously denied permission for the browser or GP7 to access “Screen Sharing”, you will not be able to share any application.
    • You will need to go to your Privacy and Security settings to resolve permissions issues if they arise.
  4. Select the application with your presentation, document or image:
    • Chrome:
      • In the popup window, click the Window tab on the top of the popup window.
      • Then select the application with your presentation, document or image from the thumbnail options displayed in the grid.
      • Then click the Share button (blue button, lower right).
    • Firefox: In the dropdown, select the application with your presentation, document or image from the dropdown options.
  5. You are now showing the application with your presentation, document or image to everyone in the meeting.
    • This application window and its contents will continue to show to everyone, even if you cover the application window on your screen.
    • It will stop showing when you stop the Screen Share or minimize the application window or close the application window.
    • On the bottom of your display there will be a constant reminder that you are sharing part of your screen, and a button to Stop Sharing.
  6. For additional security, you should remove (or ask the teacher to remove) your Presenter capabilities when you are done sharing.
