College Recommendation Request

Credible and Beneficial

For any recommendation request, TPS considers two essential factors in deciding whether we may provide a recommendation:

Can we provide a credible recommendation from first-hand experience over time?
Can we provide a beneficial recommendation for favorable comparative or competitive review?

This questionnaire will guide you through the determination of whether we know you well enough to consider a recommendation request, and then walk you through submitting your request for TPS and teacher consideration.

Is this recommendation for a National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist to become a Finalist? *

National Merit Scholarship

Congratulations on becoming a National Merit Semifinalist!

Has the NM Semifinalist student successfully completed TPS HS courses in both subject areas of (1) English Literature and Composition and (2) Mathematics in grades 9, 10, and 11? *

Is the NM Semifinalist student currently enrolled in TPS courses for grade 12? *

National Merit Scholarship

TPS considers National Merit Scholarship Finalist recommendation requests only for currently enrolled students where we provided the student’s English and Math courses in grades 9, 10, and 11, so that TPS was a significant part of the homeschool student’s journey to National Merit and college scholarships.

Is this recommendation for a college or college scholarship application? *

Recommendations NOT For College Applications and Scholarships

Except for our diploma partner students, the only recommendation requests we consider are for for college applications and scholarships congruent with high school graduation.
If you are not enrolled with TPS in a diploma program, you are respectably conducting your primary or secondary school education as a homeschooler under your state laws without external school partnership, and you should not need a school to represent or recommend you for primary and secondary school programs.
For our diploma partner students, we also consider recommendations for summer programs, internships, and other opportunities where the recommendation from their full-time school partner may be helpful. Please contact your adviser for these recommendations.
We do not under any circumstances consider recommendations for enrollment in primary and secondary schools. These are unnecessary for any student, especially a student who has been respectably homeschooling under the laws of his state. Also, these are for local school programs, where TPS is not a the best source of a credible beneficial recommendation.

Is this recommendation request for a college honors program application? *

College Honors Program or Scholarship Recommendation Request

Recommendation is for college honors program or college academic scholarship.
Currently enrolled in an upper high school course in the same subject area of the teacher providing the recommendation.
Successfully completed at least two full prior years of TPS HS courses in the same subject area of the teacher providing the recommendation.
Student’s academic record and family account are in good standing in TPS.
Transcript is requested prior to or in parallel with the recommendation request.

All of the above requirements must be met for a college honors program or college scholarship recommendation request.

College Recommendation Request

Recommendation is for college or college program.
Currently enrolled in an upper high school course in the same subject area of the teacher providing the recommendation.
Successfully completed at least two full prior years of TPS HS courses in the same subject area of the teacher providing the recommendation.
Student’s academic record and family account are in good standing in TPS.
Transcript is requested prior to or in parallel with the recommendation request.

All of the above requirements must be met for a college application recommendation request.

Do you meet the criteria listed above for requesting a college application or scholarship recommendation from a TPS teacher? *

What if we are unable to provide you a credible beneficial recommendation?

If you do not meet the criteria above, it means TPS teachers are unable to provide you a beneficial credible recommendation because we do not know you well enough by our standards.

It means that some other school or teachers (or other adult leaders or mentors) know you better and should provide you a credible beneficial recommendation.
Or it means that you have homeschooled successfully with limited external partnerships, and you are eligible to provide recommendations from external (non-parent) other than school teachers.

Every reputable U.S. secondary school, college and public scholarship has provision for homeschool students to apply without requiring school records or references. If you are applying for a school, college, or public scholarship as a homeschool student, know your rights and understand the process for homeschoolers before you apply.
